Resources for Parents

Munch & Move: Here are some great ideas for what to pack in your child’s lunchbox and what to avoid.

Life Ed is an excellent website with ideas and recipes.

Crunch and Sip Parent Brochure: Each class has crunch and sip each day during the morning learning session. Try to keep their healthy snack to a small size as they usually only have about 10 minutes to eat. Please try to pack it separately to their morning tea and lunch so they can easily get it from their bag in the morning.

Waste Free Lunches: To reduce the amount of waste in your child's lunchbox, here are some ideas on ways to minimise throw away packaging.

Starting school is a big milestone for children and their families. The transition to primary school both challenging and exciting.

Help your child through the transition by:

  • encouraging them to explore their feelings

  • helping them connect to their school

  • supporting them in building friendships and relationships

empowering them to build their confidence and independence.

Support your child to transition to primary school with our Getting ready for primary school guide.

Daisy's First Day e-Book: The NSW Department of Education has produced a special picture book for parents and carers to support their child's transition to primary school. Follow Daisy the koala as she embarks on her exciting first day.

After reading the book and getting to know the characters, download and print out these Daisy's First Day-themed activities for your child to complete:

  • Colouring sheets - Print and colour in different scenes characters from Daisy's First Day.
  • Cut-out puzzle - Help your child piece together this jigsaw scene taken from Daisy's First Day.

Terranora OOSH: Our school offers a convenient on-site OOSH (Out of School Hours) facility, providing support for families. The service runs its own dedicated Kindy Transition Program each year in January, to help our youngest learners settle in with confidence. Families can also access flexible Before and After School Care, as well as a Vacation Care program during the school holidays.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the bell times at TPS?

School commences at 8:55am and finishes at 2:55pm. For the first week in Kindergarten, students are to be walked to their classroom with their adult and dropped off anytime after 8:30am. This allows a smooth transition for our new cohort to feel comfortable with coming to big school and familiarising themselves with their classroom, teacher and peers. Kindergarten students attend for the entire day from their first day of school.

Learning Session One: 8:55am to 10:55am

Lunch: 10:55am to 11:45am

Learning Session Two: 11:45am to 1:45pm

Recess: 1:45pm to 2:10pm

Learning Session Three: 2:10pm to 2:55pm

2. School Uniforms

The girls' school uniform consists of school culottes paired with the school logo stripe blouse. Footwear should be either all black running shoes or all black school shoes with low heels. Students are required to wear short white socks (anklet and knee-high socks are not permitted). A red, wide-brim hat featuring the school logo must also be worn.

The boys' school uniform includes a red polo shirt with the school logo and grey school shorts, which can be purchased from Big W, Lowes, or Best & Less. Surf brand and corduroy shorts are not permitted. Footwear must be all black running shoes or all black school shoes, worn with short grey socks (anklet socks are not allowed). A red wide-brim hat with the school logo is also required.

All students are required to wear the school logo sport polo shirt along with red school sport shorts. This should be paired with short white socks (anklet socks are not permitted) and all black running shoes to ensure a neat and consistent appearance during physical activities.

During colder months, the winter uniform includes the same items listed above, with the addition of a red school logo jacket or jumper. Students may also wear unisex black school track pants or girls’ winter pants for extra warmth.

Wearing a hat is compulsory for all outdoor play. Our school follows a strict "No hat, no play" policy. Students are expected to wear the red wide-brim school hat with the logo, and we strongly recommend clearly labelling your child’s name on the inside of the hat.

3. What things do I need to get for my child?

Students will need to bring their own TPS school bag with a lunch box and drink bottle each day. They will also need a library bag to borrow books when it is their library day. Please ensure all items are labelled clearly with your child's name.

We provide the equipment students need such as: books, pencils, scissors, glue, a clear plastic folder for home reading etc.

Please also include a spare set of clothes just in case of an accident. i.e. socks, underwear, culottes/shorts.

We will send a note home with students, early Term 1.

4.  How do we communicate with our child’s teacher?

To contact your child’s teacher, you will need to use our school email terranora-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and our administration staff will forward your email to the corresponding teacher.

While email is useful, it’s important to schedule a meeting or phone call if you have concerns about your child’s learning. This ensures we can have a thorough discussion.

For detailed updates on your child's progress, it's best to discuss these during scheduled meetings or phone calls with your class teacher. Please note that daily or extensive written updates aren't typically provided.

For any changes to your child’s school pick-up or drop-off arrangements, please email the school administration in advance of the change. If the change needs to be made on the same day, kindly call the school at 07 5590 4146 before 1:30pm, allowing our administration staff sufficient time to inform your child and their teacher. For urgent matters, please call our school directly as emails may not be promptly relayed.

5. What apps do I need to download on my phone for TPS?

School Bytes – This is our main channel for communication (student absences, school calendar, reminder push notifications, payments for excursion). You will recieve our school login code early next year when your child has started school.

Spriggy Schools – This app is where you can order school uniforms and canteen orders.

Instagram & Facebook – Make sure to follow our Instagram and Facebook pages to stay up to date with what’s happening at our school. You will see you child learning, playing with their friends and having fun on excursions and events at TPS.

6. Can my child bring in a cake to celebrate their birthday?

Through the Spriggy Schools App, you can order Birthday Ice Blocks! Simply click on the ice block variety you would like to purchase and then choose your child’s class.

7. What is the process if my child is late for school?

If a student arrives after the school bell rings at 8:55am, they must be signed in at the front office before going to class. This ensures their attendance is correctly recorded. If students go directly to class without signing in, they may be marked absent, and an SMS alert will be sent to parents or carers.

The administration staff will sign your child in and issue a late slip. The student must give this slip to their teacher to confirm they have signed in at the office.
